How to get to Elba Island

Elba Island can be reached by boarding at Piombino Marittima, where three ferry companies (Toremar, Blu Navy and Moby Lines) run comfortable ferries with several daily departures.

In about one hour at sea, you cover the roughly 10 kilometres that separate the island from the mainland, arriving at the ports of Portoferraio (the main one), Cavo and Rio Marina.
There is also a fast hydrofoil service for passengers only, which reaches Portoferraio or Cavo in just 35 minutes.

By car:
From the north:: from Milan take the A1 motorway, then at Parma Ovest join the A15 towards the A12 Genoa-Livorno motorway. Exit at Rosignano, then follow the SS Aurelia to Venturina-Isola d'Elba and continue to Piombino Marittima.

From the north-east:: A1 Bologna-Florence-Pisa-Livorno motorway: exit at Rosignano, then follow the SS Aurelia to Venturina-Isola d'Elba and continue to Piombino Marittima.
Alternatively, take the Firenze-Pisa-Livorno expressway, exit at Firenze Scandicci, follow the SS to Collesalvetti, rejoin the motorway to Rosignano, then continue to Venturina-Piombino Marittima.

From the south: A12 Rome-Grosseto motorway, then SS Aurelia exit at Venturina-Isola d'Elba and continue to Piombino Marittima.

By coach:
Florence - Elba: from early June to late September there is a direct Tiemme coach service between Florence and Piombino Marittima, taking around 3 hours. A great option for reaching Elba without a car, especially in summer.

Poggibonsi, Colle Val d'Elsa, Siena - Elba: from mid-June to mid-September there is also a direct Tiemme service connecting these towns with Piombino Marittima in about 3 hours and 15 minutes.

Milan - Elba: two companies connect Milan to Piombino port, Lineservizi Lineservizi (with several stops along the way: San Giuliano Mil., Melegnano, Lodi, Casalpusterlengo, Piacenza, Piacenza sud / Autostrade A1 - A15 - A12, Marina di Bibbona, Marina di Castagneto, Donoratico and S. Vincenzo) amd Arzilli Bus.

Grosseto - Elba: service operated by Arzilli Bus Arzilli Bus from Porto Santo Stefano, journey time around 2 hours and 30 minutes.

By plane:
Elba is connected to the mainland by seasonal flights during summer. Connections include Milan, Pisa, Florence, Rome (Italy).
The airport is located in La Pila, about 18 km from our residence.

By train:
The nearest railway station for ferry boarding is Piombino Marittima (check timetables on www.trenitalia.com
